Who we are

Atilingo Inc. ("Atilingo," "we," "us") is a California public benefit corporation building recording, transcription, and archival infrastructure for Indigenous African languages. This policy explains what information we collect through atilingo.com, why, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

Newsletter signup

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide and the date you subscribed. We use this only to send you updates about Atilingo. We don't sell, rent, or share this list with anyone.

Contact and contribution emails

Pages like Contribute, Team, and Donate link directly to our email address. If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send — your address, name, and message content — in our ordinary inbox. We use it to respond to you and, where relevant, to coordinate a recording or contribution.

Language recordings and contributor data

Audio recordings, transcripts, and contributor information (name, location, date) are collected only with the informed consent of the person recorded, and are credited rather than anonymized, in line with our editorial practice described throughout the site. We do not collect recordings passively or without direct contact with the contributor.

Theme preference

If you switch between light and dark mode, we store that choice in your browser's local storage so it persists on your next visit. This never leaves your device and isn't a tracking mechanism.

What we don't do

We don't run third-party advertising trackers, ad-network cookies, or behavioral ad targeting on this site. We don't sell personal information.

How long we keep it

Newsletter subscriber records are kept until you ask us to remove them. Emails you send us are kept as long as reasonably needed to respond and maintain a record of our correspondence. Contributor recordings and credited data are kept as part of the permanent archive, consistent with the consent under which they were recorded.

Your choices

You can ask us to remove your email from the newsletter list, or ask what information we hold about you, at any time by emailing hello@atilingo.com. If you're a contributor and want a recording or credit updated or removed, the same address reaches us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
